What PyDraft Does_□×

PyDraft is a drafting program in the classic sense. You type a command or click a tool, you pick points, you get geometry. Everything happens on your machine, in one window, with a command line at the bottom that behaves the way drafting command lines have behaved for thirty years.

It was written by one person who needed a CAD program for a hobby CNC machine and got tired of watching free tiers disappear. The whole program is a single Python file with no external dependencies, which is why the download is small and why it will still run in ten years.

Draw

Line, polyline, rectangle, circle, arc, ellipse, ray, point, and text. Object snapping to endpoints, midpoints, centers, and intersections.

Modify

Move, copy, rotate, scale, mirror, offset, trim, extend, fillet, chamfer, explode, and erase. Trim works on lines, arcs, circles, and polylines.

Weld and Warp

Join connected geometry into a single polyline, or reshape a polyline by dragging vertices and inserting new ones.

Dimensions

Linear, aligned, radius, diameter, circumference, and angular. Metric, decimal inch, fractional inch, and architectural feet-inches.

Layers

Named layers with color, visibility, and lock. Deleting a layer asks what to do with the objects on it instead of refusing.

Model and Paper Space

Draft at real size, then switch to a paper layout for borders and title blocks. Each space keeps its own geometry.

With the rise of the internet, many people created programs, hacks, and games out of a passion for creation. Sadly, after the dot-com era, the companies that now hold power over so many tools make anyone, from a hobbyist to a massive corporation, pay insane prices. These companies are so blatant in their anti-consumer practices that they rip away your right to ownership and force you into an exorbitant subscription.

I won’t.

I have no interest in being the market leader in drafting programs. I want to make a statement: people and companies want to actually own the things they buy, and they want those things to just work. Using an LLM makes possible what used to take a miracle. PyDraft is not finished, and the alpha is how it gets finished. Testers get the program free now and keep it free forever — when the paid version ships, your tester ID unlocks it at no charge. This is not a trial that expires.

Before you download, three things

1. There will be bugs. Click Send Bug Report on the menu bar (next to Help). It takes ten seconds and it is the single most useful thing a tester can do.

2. Your tester ID lives in Help → About. Copy it somewhere safe. It is what proves you were here early, and it is stored only on your machine.

3. Bug reports include your operating system, memory, and screen size unless you uncheck that box. Your drawing is never sent unless you explicitly tick the option. Full detail on the privacy page.

Register Your Copy_□×

Registering does one job: it ties your tester ID to your email address, so your free license can be restored if you reinstall Windows, swap machines, or lose the ID. You do not need to register to download or run PyDraft, and there is no account or password.

Find your ID in the program under Help → About, then paste it here. This is what guarantees your copy stays free after launch.

Sent privately to the developer: your email, tester ID, machine type, and whether you want update emails. Nothing else. See the privacy page.

Recover a lost ID

Reinstalled and lost your tester ID? Enter the email you registered with and the developer will email your ID back, usually within a couple of days.

There is nothing to sign up for. Download the alpha, open it, and an ID is generated for you on first launch. Come back and register it when you are ready.
